The unsettled thoughts
penetrate
to the depths
as the moment of decision
peeks...
To surrender
would be ideal
with the halt of uneasiness,
the end of torture,
But
the defeat
would overwhelm,
taunting the conscience
never allowing recovery,
never allowing peace.
Yes, to submit,
to give in
appears to be the answer
to halting restlessness,
to disallowing depression.
But oh,
to be overpowered
is inappropriate.
Ideals would be broken down,
beliefs shattered
beyond mending.
Decide-
give in to desires?
or let morale win?
It seems
the triumph comes with your decision
the answer is in your happiness.
So, you decide.
penetrate
to the depths
as the moment of decision
peeks...
To surrender
would be ideal
with the halt of uneasiness,
the end of torture,
But
the defeat
would overwhelm,
taunting the conscience
never allowing recovery,
never allowing peace.
Yes, to submit,
to give in

to halting restlessness,
to disallowing depression.
But oh,

So, you decide.
Author notes
Just something I thought up. I hope it's not confusing.
Often, many of us have to decide whether or not to give in to desire-- any kind of desire.

This reminds me of Hamlet's "To be or not to be," and Iago's "but oh, what damned minutes tells he o'er, who dotes, yet doubts, suspects, yet strongly loves!"
Indecision is torture, and happiness does not always result from seeking it...
Good poem!

Good job ...
and not much else to say here. I thought you handled your premise well, and extrapolated from it with gusto. All in all, good job.

An Inter - resting ...
poem that balanced and weighed choices on a scale that tends to lean on the ultimate conclusion being, "If it's going to be ... it's up to me" philosophy and as we all know, sometimes easier said than done. I liked the way you shared those emotional highs and lows and did it well. Did you want to use the word "peeks" or was that a play on words? I would bet you have Libra in your rising. Good luck in the contest. joy

WONDERFUL!!!!
One does always have a choice, it may not be their best choice but still it is a choice. It is what we do with it that makes us what we are.

I like this contrast of giving in and giving up, it helps me to put my arguments in order like this.
We can fight to the end, but what then? If we accept a new situation, we retain choice and dignity. The last line is great - personal responsibility.
Best of luck!

Dear Zainab, now this is a truly thought generating poem by you. Choosing between "what is easy" and "what is right" is perhaps what leads to our failure and success respectively. What strikes me the most is that even though God has made inherent in us the ability to decide between good and bad...even though most of the times we fully know wherein lies the dark pit...yet we succumb to unbridled wishes and deliberately make ourselves tumble downwards. Your poem, with its universal appeal, is a shimmering signpost for every keen reader.
Plus,I appreciate the way you left the conclusion open in front of the reader while still managing to convey the essential lesson.Keep your intriguing pen dipped in ink forever !

Yes, chosing what is morally right over, what feels right is not easy, sometimes it is hard not to surrender, but remember when we surrender we give up something. Never give up.

BEAUTIFULLY EXPRESSED!!!!!!
I believe all of us have this battle going on inside of each of us.
As life goes on and the years pass, our choice is blending together and hard to decipher right from wrong.
It takes a strong and faithful heart to stand up and stay on the right path.
