Conflagration

Shameless
Terrorists
Again seeking
To strike fear
In the Homeland
Of the free and brave
Foisting on us such destruction
And anihillation of what will never
Be the same ever again as we once knew it.
But as in all such attempts to sabatage
And forever write an altered history
Standing out of the conflagration
Stands a monument unscathed
Stands now in a sea of red
Of freedom's sacrilege
The defiant and proud
Symbol of Strength
And Courageous
Freedom of
Our Nation

The Washington Monument

wow that does remind me of the washington monument, i like the juxtaposition of the iconic with external threat...

the poem itself disappoints though, the exclamation point at the end is silly... it's like charlton heston finding something on the beach at the end of planet of the apes, what could it be.... The Statue of Liberty!

more imagery and music and less straight narrative...

thanks for entering such a unique take on the contest theme

what a solid patriotic write this is. and you know, i looked a long time at the image and never once did i imagine it to be the washington monument, how very artistic of you to see that in the painting. i am forever amazed at how each of us is able to perceive art in our own way. i appreciate you poem, it is a very fine thing of it's type
