Song of Death and Grieving

Thursday November 6 2007

Song of Death and Grieving

Sipping my coffee on the edge of a new day.
Praying earnestly that sadness enfolds suffering
And then departs and fades away.

Hey nonny, hey nonny,
Hey nonny, nonny no.
Crying, weeping, solace seeking
Off to the funerals we all go.

How can I ease a mother’s grief?
Or ease a father’s sorrow?
Will their hope return to them?
Will they know a bright tomorrow?

Hey nonny, hey nonny,
Hey nonny, nonny no.
Crying, weeping, solace seeking
Off to the funerals we all go.

We live in time and as we do
It’s time that we all borrow.
We borrow hope, we borrow dreams;
Its life’s attractions we all borrow.

Hey nonny, hey nonny,
Hey nonny, nonny no.
Crying, weeping, solace seeking
Off to the funerals we all go.

Then time demands its payment due
For all these dear attractions.
For all life’s hope,
For all life’s dreams,
For life’s dear satisfactions.

Hey nonny, hey nonny,
Hey nonny, nonny no.
Crying, weeping, solace seeking
Off to the funerals we all go.

Now life is empty in dark nights…
Now life is lonely in bleak days…
Now we partake in ancient rites…
Now everyone laments and prays.

Hey nonny, hey nonny,
Hey nonny, nonny no.
Crying, weeping, solace seeking
Off to the funerals we all go.

      Dear PDK,

The contest and the poem seem to have happened simultaneously...
The mother and father of the eighteen year old boy who died Saturday November 3 in a terrible soccer accident in Italy are both doing as well as can be expected. God is with them and helping them. The boy was their only child. Thank you for being here at AP...Jane
