Look at Johnny soldier boy,he's finally
made it home.
But he has a little problem,he likes to
drink alone.
He's always up all night,then he's down
all day.
He drinks so much, watch his life
slip away.
Now his doctor says he'll make it with
a fifty-fifty chance.
To drink another bottle will be his final
song and dance.
Look at Johnny soldier boy,he's finally
made it home.
But he has a little problem because he's
really not alone.
His visions and his nightmares take him
to a different place.
When he looks into the mirror,he looks
into a different face.
A daily dose of bad illusions find his
mind to rape.
And a daily dose of morphine helps him
to escape.

Thank you for entering my military contest. This is a very well written poem that touches on the injuries and wounds of war that can not be seen by the human eye but are still very real.

having spent 24 years in the military, this one touched me deeply. Have seen too much of what you so gracefully depict. The line: 'A daily dose of bad illusions find his mind to rape'. paints a dismal true picture of what it is like living with yourself after....... Thank you for sharing.

I knew a lot of drunks, and I knew a lot of dopers (in a previous life), but I didn't know them in one body. Good rhyming AND message.
