barks of different tones

young smile, wet
the boy decides—
chocolate lab
or
golden retriever?

his mind gnashes the decision,
so impossible to use labels
like “better”

pups getting anxious
they try showing-off

the retriever can
catch three balls
at once

but the lab
knows how to dance

in the end
    he takes them both

but all the dogs in the kennel
start barking at each other
instead of cats up trees

Author notes

The poem above is metaphorical, the dogs represent people of different colours, while the boy represents God. What still happens in the end?
