pulling on jeans
tucking in tee
tugging on paddocks
wandering about me
pink cap pulled down low
hiding any tears
might be falling about you
out to the barn sweet barn
begin feeding up
smiling at old Lou as she quizzes me
any apples to go with that?
By the time I'm through
almost forgotten what day it was.
water hose leaked
Little foal looked so surprised
darn near laughed until I cried
held him close dried him off
wished so hard that it was you.
Cowgirled up and did not cry.
cleaning stalls Rocket cleared
my wheel barrel
knock the trash over
his favorite games
placed on ignore
humming to myself
came nibbled at my butt
it was on!!
butt tag he is good I am faster
oh for thirty minutes we played
I won
I guess
always have to clean up
the mess
Cowgirls don't cry
Inside made lunch
took a long hard afternoon ride
pounded the ground
calculated risks
ate by our water fall
therapy
hid my face in Rocky's mane
tears fell by the water
cowgirls do cry
with a trusted friend.
Author notes
Rockets Red Wind after butt tag when I did not want to play just after a ride =)he is so beautiful he just looked so smug here it was funny.

I didn't know cowgirls had a 'macho' ideal. I love the poem as i love all your story poems, they tell me much of what I don't know anything about.

I luv being around horses ~ and have many good experiances with them ~ When I was a little girl ~ I remember telling a horse named "Symbolic" all my secrets ~ desires ~ and especially about my day ~ I truly had a special connection to that horse ~ This poem brings back many memories of that time ~
as your write ~ the style of this write ~ captures the reader ~ you did a terrific job! ~ Thanks so much for entering the "Set the Bar" contest ~ I do appreciate you sharing your work with me ~ best of luck to you! -
Love it.
Great piece, I could see you in the alley going from stall to stall. The chores always have to get done no matter how you feel.

I like the photo very much! And I like the poem even more... there was a sense of fun in this but with that underlying sadness... I loved it!

there is nothing like confiding to your horse and releasing any and all pent up frustration. Cowgirls/cowboys do cry, but there comes a time to cowgirl up. I can relate to your poem in many ways. Very well done.

Excellent
Cowgirls cry sometimes, so do cowboys, but don't tell anyone. -
This is great.....
Cowgirled up and did not cry... my favorite line.
I am not a horse person.....lol but this is a nice
tribute!
Write on, and best wishes in the contest!
