She said it was over, and hung up the phone
I glanced at my fifth, as I sat down
The half empty glass, is actually filled
I downed the liquor, with little time killed
Tonight’s New Years Eve
The party begun
We started to count down
All of us but one
“He’s on his way now”, somebody has said
“Go pour him some shots or a glass instead”
She’s on her way too, driving through the snow
She passes a truck that she swears to know
There are flashing lights, and the Jaws of Life
And someone inside, cut her like a knife
She rushes to the scene, to face the worst truth
The guy in the truck, the guy that she knew
Tearful and bloody, he reached out his hand
“Baby please fulfill my dying demand”
“Go to the party, tell them I said this
Happy New Year’s guys, don’t end up like this”

Thanks for entering
Definitely the type of poem that will have many sitting back and thinking twice.
Good fluid flow and rhythm.
Good luck - let the ink flow and your fingers dance
