She saw the movie,
planted cosmos
and waited and waited
for the first pale green
harbingers
to break the well-watered soil.
Eight radiating petals,
now full-grown,
collar the generous spilling
of gold dust
on rich purple,
on paler pink.
Smiling, she remembers the film,
and decides to again plant cosmos
next year.
