White Ink Stains on the Darkness

Poetry romanticizes pain
curtailing its despair
with an outer edge of hope.
Creates the promise of a lofty dream
that a compelling force
is what turns pen to page
and thereby, has a purpose.

That is why
my wait in darkness
thudding with despondency
is not my full conqueror
as words breathe my hope on a page.

Author notes

I chose the first quote-- You've gotta have hope. Without hope life is meaningless. Without hope life is meaning less and less. ~Author Unknown

I just recently had a bout with hopelessness. True hopelessness--the kind that looks at something and knows it'll destroy you but also knows that there's no way out (thankfully, I did get to avoid that situation). That's when the first stanza of this poem was written. Without hope, there is no life. You become a machine, that goes through all the motions without laughter or tears or any other emotion, but utter despair and desolation.

But I was still writing. And so even in that complete hopelessness and even as my life crashed down around me, I wasn't fully lost in it if I could still write about it.

Very well written of hope, for it is the light that beckons to all who are lost in the darkness of their own sorrows. Well done to grab the Bronze...Scott

    this is great

I love the whole concept of this poem. I love how it ends with the thought that as long as you are writing there is hope. Great job. God bless you, Mark

    Well done.

Great poem my friend. What I've found to be helpful in times of hopelessness is to simply put one foot in front of the other and move. Mobility is cathartic in and of itself. I wish you all the best. God go with you.

Beautiful poem. Simply and eloquently written, both despair and hope resonating in every single line. I also know where you are coming from and admire your commitment to writing even at a point nearing hopelessness, or is it a need to write? As long as there is a pen nearby, hopelessness stands no chance in the fight. Great write!
