I. the tales

i. the fall

consumed with curiosity
and overwhelmed with the
vastness of the unknown,
she tumbled through centuries,

crashing headfirst into knowledge
  (ripened, bright red, and
bitten to the core by the teeth
  of the deceived one.)

ii. the power

unable to wash
the damned spot
from bloodied,
guilt-soaked palms,

she wringed hands
incessantly-- unsuccessful
in her attempts to escape
sleepless nightmares
and the reality of
corrupted ambition.

iii. the shame

standing bravely atop
condemnation’s scaffold,
‘mother of pearl’
no longer evoked images
of glimmering seashells
and aged beauty

but rather of
forbidden passions--
their debts paid
by humiliation
and public disgrace.

Author notes

three famous literary ladies. three glimpses into their stories. part two spells out exactly who they are, so if you want to guess, make it quick!

I think they're very obvious. But I wrote them... so I guess I would. :-/

HESTER AND PEARL FROM THE SCARLETT LETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hawthrone did wonders with the book, but gosh, that novel was a pain in the ass to read (for me). However, that chapter on Pearl was amazing (I actually loved reading it). And the story=love. But, it's still a pain in the ass to read.
