You tell me you are Hawaiian,
...but you're seventy five percent Caucasian.
You preach racial purity
...but you marry an Asian.
Your view's an extremity
of hatred aloof...
So I hate to break it to ya:
Nobody's 100 proof.
We all are concoctions
of a larger gene pool;
a mixture of nations
and people we never knew.
How far can we trace
our imaginary tree?
If you go far enough
You'll hit Adam and Eve!
I don't see the value
in towing the line
of some racial purity-
a branch of the vine
entwined
in our unique DNA-
but I guess, in the end,
That's the Human Way.

Very true
I loved this piece!! Very well done!

Loved the inherent message within this. The title is effective,it's part and parcel of the poem as well as in introduction. The rhyme isn't compromized and the blank background allows the reader to focus fully on the words.
The poet has made pertinent points that affect society to the extent of a stranglehold.Indeed no one can be absolutely positive regards their geneology.
Like very much the phraseology of no one's 100 percent proof, enough of my rambling, well done indeed.

Very astute.
Love your critical approach and understanding. You have the soul of a poet and I value your comments. Mahalo.

an interesting topic
this idea of "racial purity" is often found in america, despite its reputation of being 'the melting pot'. i liked the fact that this poem hits on several very important themes: hypocrisy being the major one. and along with that could come racism, nationalism, you name it. my only complaint was the rhyme scheme [which seemed a bit off at the end there] but overall, well thought out and well said. these were your best lines:
"We all are concoctions
of a larger gene pool;
a mixture of nations
and people we never knew.
How far can we trace
our imaginary tree?"
good luck and thanks for entering! -

Purity Can't Stay
Maybe the last stanza reflects the breakdown of purity represented in the poetic form itself collapsing--after all, to ERR is human...to forgive, divine. Can you ever forgive me? Aloha : )

Totally Awesome!
I love this poet like I love myself! Pure genius! Probably won't be understood until 100 years after his/her death...
