The trees
They are swaying
Weeping with the wind
They mourn the flightless spirits
Which wander the shores
With unfound footsteps
Their dark eyes search
At times finding
The ones they loved –
Left behind –
Have moved on
Time does not wait for them
And the trees –
The only ones who understand
Their songs
Which whisper through the wind –
The trees mourn them
Listening to their lullabies
Murmurs to their loved ones
And the trees
Whisper to them
Offering comfort
And sigh
Unveiling secrets
And words of the lost ones
But the living do not know the words of the old,
As they slip under the ice of the past
And the souls keep wandering
Only the trees
Will never forget

This is beautiful. It is melancholy, but yet still beautiful. Great job! It reminded me of "The Scarlet Letter" for it has the same theme in that book, but more of sins the trees remember. It was a little sadder than I was intending for this contest, but it is still beautiful. Best of Luck!
