Waves of color
bobbing up and down,
on heads careening
around the corner
past the school buses.
One unadorned spot
among a multitude,
tossed by Raven’s caps,
cowboy hats that had seen better days,
Madeline’s brim with black ribbons,
a flying pig that clapped
on top of one lucky noggin’,
second story cat-in-the-hat’s
knocking off the competition,
with one bedraggled trunk
of Whorton’s Who,
clasping a dusty pink flower.
Scissors cutting off butcher paper,
with one simple snip,
creasing the edges
before folding from rote,
a jaunty paper hat,
etched in every class
as the décor’s spectrum spiraled
into a prismatic collage
worn askew with bravado,
as he sailed through the next hall change,
with his own crown of achievement.

nice job describing Hat Day . . very familiar tone . . like "with his own crown of achievement" . . -
Lol. Well what can I say about this topic? Soo original. I really like this because it reminds me of fall fest at my school where everyone in my schools looks like a freak show.
Its awesome
Nice work with describing this and so glad you decided to share, I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for the entry.
