the Cry

a cry in the wilderness

the buffalo are gone

painful new beginnings

how will they carry on?

herded like cattle

death along the way

no mercy shown

just another bloody day

thousands of miles

snow and rain

so much loss!...

nothing gained!...

Author notes

Was with my people on the reservation and the poverty breaks my soul!...I struggle not to hate!

this was beautiful; and a wonderful memory of the man who wrote this - who i didn't know about until today when i stumbled upon freespirit's site but ....

how can this not touch me when i see what it was written of, and for ... so much loss, as he said, so much pain, neverending with the strain ...

    be at peace now.

I sometimes wonder what our country might be like today if the white man had not done the atrocities which led to what our native Americans have gone through over the many years.

Your poetry is pieces of history, carrying lessons we all should heed and learn from.

I cry as in the trail of tears....The Sioux and many tribes relocated, lied to...Oh as it says in Psalms 133 in the Bible how good and blessed it is for brethren to dwell together in unity...We could have had we done it Gods' way.Why white nan did not!I mourn for lives that will never be the same.

very powerful words and great poem.
    thousands of miles

    snow and rain

    so much loss!...

    nothing gained!...

poverty is painful and terrible and very sad. Espcially when it hits so close to home. If there was a way to change what happened in the past, I would do it in a heartbeat. there is no excuse for what happened to your people. never should have happened in the first place. makes me ashamed, to be descedents of the white man.

    I am stilled

I am stilled by this work and humbled by it's pointing truth. As a white man I remain conscious of those terrible histories because of people like myself. I wrote this little piece of work because I feel there is much more to learn about each other.
If the distance between us prevents us from hearing each other, then let us mover closer and share the same space and in this we may share the same dream.
I now work for the Musqueam Indian Band in Vancouver BC and can tell you, I remain humbled for their generosity to me. Your work cuts deep, it is meaningful and honest. My thanks for letting me read it.

    My dear sweet friend: :f

It is certainly sad that even today, such pain and suffering remains.....

Your people have been through hell and then some, it is something that one day those that have done the harm will not be able to escape, and yetm the spirit lives on in all we see around us..... The spirit is strong.....

Blessed be my dear friend with love, light and all the very best; always and forever.....

    Your friend forever,

My Brother, This is a touching poem of needless brutality, an honorable people treated with such contempt and hatred. This is a dishonor and shame that my white brothers share. Even through trials, the spirit of the this great people survives. May God continue to bless.
