Dear…
Dear…
Dear you,
If this happens to fall upon your lap…
Will you know it's for you?
I don't know you,
You don't know me.
But I have a thousand non-memories
From our non-history.
Do you dream of me like I dream of you?
Remember that one day we kissed?
Well, I know you don't.
It hasn't happened yet.
But here's how it went:
We climbed the birch hill in July.
We foraged the forest
We barreled the brook
We lay in the lily fields,
Sun, sunny sunflowers, and sky…
I invaded your fort
As you had invaded my mind
And that first time was
Triple X…cellent…
Remember in October when we fell in love?
Well, I know you don't.
It hasn't happened yet.
But here's how it went:
We walked the Atlantic Ocean at low tide
Pursuing the horizon
Until a rainstorm drove us home.
Slapping sneakers in sand
Screams and laughter swirling
With brown yellow red.
Hair stuck on my face
We made love on the bathroom wall
The kitchen floor,
Living room couch,
Bedroom door…
Then those words:
"Sun, sunny sunflowers, and sky"
Fell out of your mouth
Into my ear
And we were ours.
Remember when February came
And you wanted to leave?
Well, I know you don't.
It hasn't happened yet.
But here's how it went:
You had dreams of money,
Mansions and cars.
You wanted the world
And I only had $25.
So we walked all day
In silent slush puddles.
In my head
A tornado of tragedy
Was beating my already
Apparent attachment.
Your steaming hot plate of carelessness
With a side of disregard
Made me want to scream your eyes out.
But in the silence,
The wind sang of summer.
And although I knew your dreams
Were not of me,
I said: "Everyone gets sick of snow"
And hoped that sun, sunny sunflowers, and sky
Would keep you around.
Remember when that year ticked down like a timer?
Well, I know you don't.
It hasn't happened yet.
But here's how it went:
We knew it was the end.
Every pore could feel
Your urge to fly.
That was dark July:
Sitting in trees
Solid stillness;
Heavy and hopeful
Sun, sunny sunflowers, and sky
Breaking my heart;
Wind chimes
Thousands of miles away;
Crickets playing Dies Irae.
August came
You were already gone.
But oh, soul mate!
Remember that one day we kissed?
When you find me, we will.
Dear…
Dear…
Dear you.
Dear…
Dear you,

Author notes
What does this have to do with choices? I love movies like 'Eternal Sunshine' that subtly ask the question, "If you knew how it would end, would you choose to do it again?" Every relationship we enter into is a choice and a gamble. Is it worth risking the end to experience those moments when love first blooms?

Welcome to Allpoetry and thank you for entering
What an interesting interpretation of the topic. I think that no matter what I have been through, I would always choose the same thing, because our choices are what define us.
Thank you for entering and good luck

An entertaining poem that takes me on a journey of love yet to be found. A captivating read.

Welcome to All Poetry
A really interesting write and you have penned some excellent thoughts. If we don't take the gamble and make choices then maybe we would never find that real love.
Thanks so much for entering our contst

Aww...
I feel like crying, it's happy and sad at the same time. To imagine love is so much of a difference to feeling it...I'm assuming, I wouldn't know, hopefully I will know one day...and so will you. Greating writing, please keep it up -
Thanks for your entry :]

Those words are very powerful. You have penned a strong write that made me feel as though I was watching a silent movie.
