I knew your eyes before I knew my own
Your smile, before we ever met.
I used to draw you
On the margins of papers and fast-food napkins
The features would vary,
But your eyes stayed the same.
I spent a long time looking,
in the eyes of other men
Searching for that glimmer
in the depths of those orbs.
I saw wistfulness, sadness,
joy, adoration
I found fire,
I found passion,
but nothing that could match
those eyes I knew without knowing
The ones I knew but had never seen.
I always knew that when I found you
It would hit me like a brick...
We both knew it without saying,
from the moment we met.
Those little crinkles at the corners of your smiling eyes--
shining bright, they looked within me
a reflection of mine.

I loved the line about drawing in the margins and fast food napkins...I have done this myself several times. Beautiful write with great imagery.
Good luck in my contest!

Oh this is just lovely. I couldn't have said it better, even though I entered this contest myself. I related wholeheartedly. Best of luck in the contest. Definitely worthy of a trophy.

The immagery is strongly knitted and love is around the verse which is indeed very intriguing as well..thanks for the beautiful entry in my contest...

Is he real? DId You actually find those eyes?
Your piece overwhelms me. I can't find words to express my thoughts about it...Congratulations...Mat

That, Mat Larkin, is an excellent question. Time will tell, I believe.
