Cultural Amnesia

Missing image
Deceived...by his generous paycheck,
Diseased...by his cultural amnesia,
Perceived...by his family, as "the" intellect,
He proudly states
"Nothing I believe...anymore."

He proudly wears upon his sleeve,
a generous kind nature,
and yet....his words ring out to me,
how nice it must be ...to live... inbetween...
forgetting our history, the not so long ago wars,
the overdose heroes of  Elvis, Hendrix, and Cobain.
He stops believing, not really standing for anything?

Where is his substance, where is his memories?
Will anyone truly shed tears n' grieve
when He leaves this world?
Are enemies just as important as friends?
Shouldn't he give a damn about something?

He writes out his check, giving to charity,
smiles with relief,
a beautiful tax deduction I see!
What a smart man I must be,
I'll call my CPA first thing in morning.

So I asked, aren't you fearful of anything?
"Fate" he replies...listing statistics and endless facts,
It's simply a matter of fate."

Now, that's the damndest excuse I have ever heard!
It finally occurs to me...
In his mind he hears, cultural amnesia whisper in his ear,
"HE is All he'll ever need" emotionally alienated, spiritually
isolated, perhaps that is why he  cleverly hides behind words.
Peeking from just below his hair, unaware, we see,
his Barcode of emotional leprosy.

Author notes

Every family has "one" the know-it-all, who spouts off
statistics that fly over our heads, and you sit there
and kinda nod your head wondering what the hell is he talking about? I have one too...I worry about him...think he
has suicidal tendencies..I'll continue to love him,
annoy him, challenge him to not be afraid to have
misbeliefs and Beliefs, perhaps he just loves confrontations?

    Sad But True

Every family has one not to mention one out of three of any friend or acquaintance is one. It's to the point the social conditioning has been so successful that even an atheist can suffer from poisonous observation. Good job my friend and take care. Rhon

YEs, each family does have one like this. Great job in dscribing this person, his characteristics, her thoughts, and the way others think of them. Good use of words, interesting titl. Liked how you used the title as the last word too. COngrats on taking bronze in this contest, a very profound write.

    STUNNING AND TRUE

AAAHHHHH THIS IS BRILLIANT. I LOVE THIS. THIS IS SO TRUE OF SO MANY PEOPLE WHO COCOON THEMSELVES WITHIN THEIR OWN LITTLE WORLDS. BELIEVING THAT ALL IS 'RIGHT' WITH THE WORLD. AND THAT THEY ARE 'RIGHT.'

BELIEVING THAT BECAUSE THEY THROW A FEW DOLLARS IN THE CHARITY TIN, IS ABSOLVES THEM FROM SIN. HAHAHAHAH. SO SO BLIND IT IS UNTRUE. THIS SHOULD BE READ BY THOSE WHO NEED TO READ IT THE MOST.

    FANTASTIC WORK

    WAYNE

Interesting piece. I enjoyed the way it flowed and the perspective was quite unussual for me. Good job showing me another side of things.

I can relate to this because I have a "know-it-all" in my family. He gets on my nerves sometimes. Thanks for sharing this with us. best of luck in the contest
