giving out the warmth
during cool seasons
a certain romance
with the rug in front
and feet placed warmly on top
a cat snugly on top
eyeing the fishbowl
waiting to prance
with perfect precision
but it also feels scarey
like a force inside
controlling it
anytime the fire can go
with no reasonable explanation
a chimney-sweep might fall down
with soot covering his face
and all his clothes
what a funny sight that would be
even Santa Clause might appear!
what a weird invention
with so many feelings
no one can be sure
of the magic behind
the fireplace

What a lovely write, I can relate to your words and there's always a cat laid in front of my fireplace too lol. Well done and good luck in the contest.

Keep your home fire burning
because you get so much snug comfort from it which you convey very well. I like your poem in its exploratory passage. Do write like this often!

This is nice. I like the way you describe fire as having a spirit. This also made me think fond thoughts of childhood.

Your poem envokes so many happy memories for me - I don't have a fireplace any more but i'm drawn as a moth to a flame when i see one, glowing and welcoming. Good Luck with this, Von

You have painted a wonderful image with your words. There is a magic that hid within a fire and the fireplace only magnifies it. It is always the focal point in any home An enjoyable read Good luck in the contest

a peaceful picture...
...but it does have its own question to wonder about, and then it becomes scarey.
I saw the cat on top of the rug.
I like the way you paint a picture and then pose a twist within it. I like your alliteration and the way you have line breaks to add to the meaning of your free verse.

great atmosphere
however did not understand the location of the cat
