I remember
when four-twenty
wasn’t just
a number

or a day
celebrated
once a year
inside a thick,
illegal haze of
smoky euphoria.

it was every day,
twice a day--
giggling inside
that “fire engine red”
hot-boxed-to-hell,
beat-to-shit,
Jeep Classic--

passing a
stained-glass bowl
or a sloppily-rolled
joint between sisters,
and basking in the
sweet, warm glow of
polluted bliss,
good times,
and even better
memories.

it just doesn’t
feel the same
anymore.

Author notes

The title and the "every day, twice a day" line (and the whole thing, really) comes from a time way back in the day when my sister and I would smoke to go to sleep, usually right around 4:20 AM, and then smoke again as soon as we both finished with school stuff, usually right around 4:20 PM. It was one of our little jokes.
I know this was open to anything drug related, but I kind of ran with the 4-20 thing, hope that's alright.

This was great. A poem about all the simple things I found so beautiful. It was a rare treat for me to catch both the a.m. AND the p.m. on the same day, but those days...
