Stare through the shattered window
Look upon the hallowed ground
Shadows blur the edges
Arc up and swallow the sun
Gaze upon the cracked marble floors
Walk through the hallowed halls
That echo with your footsteps
Nothing is left now
The beauty that once was
Misty and forgotten
The place where smiles were born
Beneath the painted mural rafters
Blackness now and nothing else
Silence long replaced the laughter
Its now gone and just a ruin
Skeletal in the moon
Bathed in a softer glow
Meaningless to all but those who knew
So as the birds break the air with their calls
Rats and mice nest deep in the walls
The house of God has fallen ill
Weakening and losing faith
Like a beating heart finally still
