A sonnet to my lady's eyes

Two eyes thou hast with which to see and sign.

Though by all creatures is the former done,
the latter is achieved by eyes of thine
in empathy with mine and mine alone.

No words need pass when eyes are in accord,
nor other signs need hands or body make.
When glances shoot their messages abroad
we know, each one, the action we must take.

With upraised brow, o'erhanging flutt'ring lid,
the signal sent I do not misconstrue,
though acquiescence is quite often hid
for fear too hasty action I should rue.

So loving friend, with this love make thy signs
and hold not back from Nature's grand designs.
