He gets on his knee
Reaches behind his back
Only to bring out a little red sack
He turns the sack upside down
Dumping out its contents
When a box hits the ground
He opens the box to look at the sight
And gaze at the wonderful reflection of light
She touches his face
He takes her hand
To ask her one question and give no demand
He slides the ring onto her hand
And plants a kiss in preparation to stand
Who would have thought they’d end up like this
Taking such a mighty risk
No one thought they would make it
At least not together you see
For her parents were convinced that they weren’t meant to be
But now the years have passed and she is finally free
Because she is no longer JUST their daughter, but also a bride-to-be
Through all the stress and pain, she made this one decree
That she would love him forever until the end of time
And that she would never change on him on the flip of a dime
Of course her parents were unhappy
So when she began to cry
Everyone began to understand
That they found joy in her sadness
Because their lives were bland
They asked her why she cried
As they pretended to look grim
I’m the happiest woman alive
Is what she said as she happily gazed at both of them
Her story does not end
This is only where it begins
Where does her life go now
Who knows
It all really depends
Reaches behind his back
Only to bring out a little red sack
He turns the sack upside down
Dumping out its contents
When a box hits the ground
He opens the box to look at the sight
And gaze at the wonderful reflection of light
She touches his face
He takes her hand
To ask her one question and give no demand
He slides the ring onto her hand
And plants a kiss in preparation to stand
Who would have thought they’d end up like this
Taking such a mighty risk
No one thought they would make it
At least not together you see
For her parents were convinced that they weren’t meant to be

Author notes
This poem means alot to me because I dedicated it to my boyfriend. It doesn't get close to the pain we have gone through to be together. My parents really dislike him, but I love him very much and for some reason they just can't deal with that or us being happy together. It was such a terrible experience, so I wanted to right a poem relating to our forbidden relationship.
