while journeying to the music center after a moderately heavy snowstorm

my eyes are surrounded by an odd, fluctuating haze
caused by the steam that billows from my lungs
//il fait froid//
my body aches for the warmth of my safe and humble apartment
that forth floor loft that maintains a constant temperature of 60 degrees fahrenheit
i see the trees that litter my historic campus
they sparkle like glass, the light refracting off tiny crystals that fell from heaven
offsetting the dismal death of the deciduous growth
and the heathen beauty of the firs and their branches

i am soothed by this odd and discomforting silence
my shoes can barely carry me from one classroom to another
without first disturbing the virgin snow that covers the myriad walkways
it crunches and squeaks like new snow often does and part of me wishes
to lie down
and rest in this beautiful frozen wonderland

voices pray for warmth to return but i dismiss them
home is in the cold, the silence, the dead, the sleeping earth
the beauty of this place comes to life in the simplicity of winter
and every step you take
leads you further into its embrace

//this is my december
these are my snow-covered trees
this is me pretending
this is all i need//

Author notes

i don't know what you want me to link in my author's notes.

the french line simply means "its cold (the weather)"

the other lines at the end are from a song, my december, by linkin park.

i love winter.

    I only needed people to cite the source if it was a PW. Thanks for the definition of the French line, I had no idea what it meant. Thanks for also pointing out where you got the last part of the poem. This is a really cool poem! I like how you clearly state your feelings and what you would like to do. Thanks for entering and good luck! Keep that pen flowing!
