wondering if we care.
Do they miss me,
are they as afraid as I am.
Do they think about me,
I am not in a cozy home.
I am on the battlefield,
fighting for their safety.
I may never make it home,
do they know I am scared.
I see so many friends die here,
for each one I shed many tears.
So much blood around me,
I am wounded and it hurts.
I have to be strong for them,
I must keep trodding on.
I sit here quiet and alone,
praying one day I'll make it home.

Wow...This hit me like a ton of bricks. I was in Iraq and saw some not so pretty things. This is a truly amazing write!

You should visit my page and read my poem titled "He's Never Coming Home"... It's one of my best writes. It's very sad though.
You did a great job with this. I relate to it but from a different point of view. Great write!

speechless
this was so emotion filled. it especially touched my heart as my youngest son will be going to iraq in less than 2 weeks. i am terrified for him and pray each night that this awful war will end and he will be home safe and sound. kudos!!

A very lovely sympathetic write and I hope you include all the other troops out there with your own guys. Some folk would be very surprised to even know how many other countries have their young people losing their lives along with your own troops. No one in their right mind ever wants war (except those in business that make HUGE amounts of money out of them)but thank God for those who will stand and fight for our right to openly talk about these things in freedom.

Excellent job writing this poem
Like Viet Nam, where I was in 1967-68, I think The Iraq War was and is unnecessary. I feel strongly for the unnecessary dead and injured from this still ongoing war. The Afghanistan War was and is necessary. We need to be going into western Pakistan along its boarder with Afghanistan also to get Osama Bin Laden. We should have done that from the beginning and not gone into Iraq.
Well, our troops everywhere are courageous and wonderful women and men.

nice job! it's sad some of the men and women over there don't know how much some appreciate them and I'm afraid there are a lot of people that don't appreciate them. Good write. There were a few rough spots but it was well done!
-

I do support the troops.
but to be honest I can not and will not support this administration and it's corruption.
too many lies have been told and our freedoms are being lost by it's policies. thank goodness this president has only 1 yr left!

I expect that many Iraqi mothers will be alone this Christmas too. Their children will have died in the bombing of their cities. I hope you will spare a thought for them as well, as a good Christian should.
-
Very well done.
This is a very well written poem about what our soldiers feel while out on the battle field. Your words make me feel as if I could be there and see what they see and feel what they are feeling. I know that they must wonder if they are forgotten. If we even realize how they feel and just what they are going through. You have caught the essence of your title extreamly well in this and I wish you luck in this contest. -
almoust made me slipp a tear
i've got myself an army poem maybe you could visit it http://allpoetry.com/poem/3683104 and im a new guy here !

It saddens me deeply to think of all our brave soldiers in foreign countries scared and lonely. I pray for the wars to end soon and that the day of world peace will come soon. May all our brave come home safely.... And for those who have not and will not..I pray for your eternal peace and I thank you!

This is a good poem with a good sense of emotion, although I am happy to say that I can't relate all that much to this feeling. None of my family has ever served in the armed forces, although I have lost a few... Anyways, even though this isn't really my rype of poem it was still pretty good
-
A very powerful thought provoking write, wonderfully expressed, wondering if anyone really cares. Lib x x
-
Wow... this is so powerful. I admit, it is hard to remember those we don't see regularl, and hard to remember to think of those who out in the battlefront. Beautiful expression on what a soldier thinks. Good luck in the contest!

It's war.
Stay out of the armed forces. -
awwwwwwwww this one was beautiful. Great job bringing out the anxiery of a soldier feeling alone and having no support from his own country. Beautiful write.

I really like what you have written here,
And with the Holidays coming up and about a great reminder that there are many of them still out there!
We all should try and remember them this Holiday season, When my husband was in Iraq there was one guy in his unit that his family disowned, He was born and raised here his family not! It was very sad and he was very much alone, I included things for him in the pkgs I sent over! to show him somone cared..
Thanks for sharing much can be gained from this write,

Such truth in this one
Yes for each breath I take here within safe suroundings I think of our boys making it posiible . God Bless each and everyone for they give their all for us back home now we need to give our all in understanding their bravery

-
The unselfish
We at home at times sit and bitch about our plight. They are our best &I thank you for writing this fine piece
-
Very touching.
This is very touching and thought provoking. You have touched on the thoughts of a soldier in a war torn land very well. I my self have never been there but many of my family as well as my husband has and it sounds just like what you describe. Somehow we as a nation should all try to let them know that we care and that they are never forgoten. Bless you for writing such a heartfelt poem. It is very well done and i liked it very much.

As long as there are people like us thinking of him and caring he will never be truly alone. Your words were beautiful and very honestly expressed your feelings. As someone with many who are close to me wearing the uniform with pride I say thank you for your wonderful poem.
Take care
Margaret
