Circuit

I knew just what button to push
His palm
And I'd let mine linger on it
Just a second too long.

Dark eyelashes blink back fear, a wife, a child.
I fall back into focus.
I'm here.

He whispered softly, hoarse and with haste

"What do you want and want for it?"
Our fingers already making promises.

A flash from his hand blinded me
And I replied
"Companionship"

I'm lonely.

My eyelashes a blurry mess, we met
And even if the scene was faded at the edges
The rush
The sweep
It followed through arms and legs to fingers and toes

It rang through my spine.

A strand of hair is stolen by the wind.

I'm waiting.
Am I here?
Are you there?

Just a glance, a confirmation.

But it's just a flicker. My eyes commanding space to move.
For a moment I have my doubts.
Would he even be the same man anyway?

Or what if he knew I'd be waiting all along?
