Do you know how I know October is here?
I feel it in the air.
The mornings are crisp.
The nights are cool.
The days are only warm.
I look and see the Maple tree.
dressed in colors all aglow.
Oranges and reds, yellows and greens.
A blaze of color in the fall.
I smell the air and on the breeze,
the smells of Autumn's harvest.
Sweet potatoes, and cranberries.
Pumpkins and corn all ready for my table.
Taste all bounty summer's grown.
Apples and pears made in to pies.
Squash and yams baked golden brown.
I don't know which one is my favorite.
Now I hear a mournful noise
sending chills up my spine
Was it the wind whipping the trees
or a coyote howling at the moon
Yes Autumn is here preparing us for winter.
Author notes
I grew up in Ohio, and we had a maple tree in our yard, that had the most beautiful leaves in the fall.
