what was given is taken away,
first principles--
Candide:
“Now, I eat you”, according to the law.
Should I explain?
Chaos eating her children
begetting the end in the beginning.
"Totus Tuus"
which was to be his mistress
some faint whispers in the belfry
as he masturbates
with glossy manuscripts
the lurid details, esse of signs
or omens, Lisa says,
leaving space in the design
since that was to be his business
and not poems
which was too easy
but required
as it needed to be explained,
heartlessly
while the cowards stared
with gleaming eyes fixed on after words.
what was given is taken away
because of love
and sometimes that is a hard word.
In a list
Please tell me what you think

I actually had a hard time in the beginning making any sense out of this , but after a couple of more reads things became a bit clearer and I believe those last lines were definitely a big help. Quite an unusual style in which you write and I have to appreciate the uniqueness all on its own

A ULTIMATE DEFINTION. . .
LOVE, IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A DEFINITION MR. wEBSTER CAN DESCRIBE. FOR IT'S A EVENT OF FEELING AND PASSION ONLY ONES WHO EXPERIENCE CAN TRULLY DEFINE. yOU DEPICT VERY WELL OVER MR. WEBSTER'S DEF. YOU CONFORMED TO TRUTH AND CAUSE AND EFFECT. mY FAVORITE PART: "wHAT WAS GIVEN IS TAKEN AWAY" aS IF STOLEN AWAYS IN THAT LINE. gOODLUCK. SMILE ALWAYS.

Love is the hardest word to say for it has all the meaning of life encapsulated within its own encrypted enigma.
Let those who have knowledge of such secrets keep them hidden from the prying eyes of the masses that would devour it and leave no further words but to say "Deus ex Machina "
I like it, I like it so.

hello Lute
thinking of the poem as the explanation, so there are no 'after words' (love that!)
quite beautiful melancholy, and tender (even with a lonely(?) person masturbating as Chaos eats her children!)
mind-boggling stuff, thanks!

Oohh just a bit of casual Voltaire den. Lute you turriblee highbrow sumtimeys, I never never getting why you got to make fings fussy wif all dem books you've done weading of. This pome lovely wiffout Candide. I aint sure whys Candide got to bees here but den I fink I say that to you to0o0o0 much. Hey if it's Candide it's got to be satirey anyways righty? Maybee sumtimes I take your names what you use too seriously. Maybe i reading all wrongly. Blergh.
What will it avail me to prolong a wretched life that must be spent far from her in remorse and despair?
Bloops. I not know what Totus Tuus meanings but for somes reason it making me fink of Catholics and then I get scared because Catholicism gives me the shiveryivers. Is it "totally true"
"totally devoted"
Brrr. I dunno.
Always always I will fink why Candide why why why Pound or Baudelaire or wotever why not Bob or Daniel or whatever. The name Lisa don't get in the way of the poems. Sometimes I can't read through the Candides and stuff. No writing stands alone, everything has its relationships to other writings. Everything intertextual everybody is knowing dat but sometimes dem names what you use make the reader run off to Voltaire or whoever and not stay in a Lute poem and a Lute poem is beautiful. Of course most people will maybe run off to Leonard Bernstein and Sondheim coz they aint read the other and what is they then is they heathen???? What if they're not knowing any any Candides at all? I don't know - sometimes I fink the name dropping's a wee bit exclusionary dats all. It do make me sad because sumtimes if fink it makes the pooms a wee bit pretentious and they're not they're not but name droppings are a little bit. But poem is beautiful. Oh gloopy gloopy gloops. I dunno. Candide just one teeny word in the beautifulllllll poem and I fink it trips the lovely poem up a little. I just think why is Candide there all boofy and in the way?
Blurp.
Probably just me though.
And maybe I'm just bitter because the title made wish it was going to be about Cinema Paridiso anyway.
I'd get rid of just the C word but den it aint mine. It's still a gorgeous plume anyways. Maybe it's me who's the fusspot.
Oh what next? Plume about his Nanine???? Eeeep no ta.
