Oedipus

I ran away to save his life
and spare myself these crimes
my name is Oedipus,
and I didn't know

I got in a fight on the road
and killed my true father
my name is Oedipus,
and I didn't know

I married my mother, who bore
Antigone, daughter and sister
my name is Oedipus,
and I didn't know

sought to avoid my destiny
by fleeing, I fulfilled it
my name is Oedipus,
and I didn't know

Author notes

The third in my mythology series. This one is about Oedipus, who sought to avoid fate only to fulfill his destiny, quite an unpleasant one.

Please tell me what you think--or don't, because I don't much care.

You really captured the essence of the play in this...I love it. It's like he's giving an autobiography!
