She walks alone
and does not smile
head down low
and all the while
they wonder and stare
whisper and laugh
but as soon as she looks
they walk right past
long pant and a jacket
beanie hiding her hair
no skin showing
while others are bare
she does not eat
just sits in a corner
growing thinner every day
and others scorn her
one day, they follow her home
she walks slow and stiff
she does not go to a house
but on top of a cliff
she sheds her jacket
to reveal bruised arms
and slides off her pants
and there are many scars
next, she pulls off her beanie
and thick curls of golden sun
unfold over her shoulders
then they all gasp and run
there were but a few
who stayed for the show
as she danced to no music
and her curls danced while the wind blowed
she got on her knees
and took a deep breath
then started to sing
"I'll hold my head high and forget all the rest"
she touched her black arms
and flinched, just slightly
grazed her bony handss over scars
touched each one lightly
then, she pulled on her jacket
and tied up her hair
slid on her pnats
and still, they did stare
she turned around
and walked on
slipped on a rock
and then she was gone
no screams
nor a shriek
no one ever spoke
of when she fell over the peak
