Rachel's Challenge

Rachel Joy Scott

May you rest in peace!

This young girl amazing youth

touched many in her short life.

She was the first to die at the Columbine School Shootings

Her goal was to reach out her hand to many.

She was a girl so full of love

always sacrifing her time to the less fortunate.

Her legacy can live on!

 If other's takes a chance,to be kind

to just one or many of their peers.

One look at this beautiful girl

you would have seen a normal student.

There was nothing different on the outside

just a highschool girl with her own dreams

only her life, she knew was to be used.

She knew God had a plan ..

The plan was her giving to other and ultimatly dying

for her faith.

Before her death she witnessed her faith to many people,

including a small chat with who were to be her killers.

She wanted to be either an actress

or a missionary.

Strange as it seems now

God let her have her wish.

Her face is seen and her story told on many shows,

Rachel's father becoming a missionary for her, going from place to place

telling her story and challenging us to be better people.

To give a smile or just talk with a kid that seems like he's being bullied,

to help the handicaped,to spread Gods love in actions not in words.

This was Rachel's challenge ...

When the shooting started she ran,the shooter shot her in the leg,

she got back up and he shot her in the back which went through her backpack,

upon seeing she still was't dead,he then proceeded to her.

Lifting her by the hair,he asked if she still believed in Christ?

She said YES ..

He then shot her in the temple causing her instant death.

Her father said, only to hear her Lord say

Thank you,good and faithful servant.

What love and bravery one girl showed not once,

but her whole life.

This is Rachel's last wish and prayer that you take up this challenge to be kind and help others.

Lets honor Rachel's wish.

    What A Witness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She sure puts many of us to shame in ou walk with and for CHrist!!! At least me, I am so quick to be offended, and angere. I didn't used to be that way. But I tell you after reading this my life is nothing for CHrist in comparison to Rachael Scott's. I have no doubt she received sainthood immediately upon meeting Jesus. She is free and in Heaven and watching over many I believe in the schools today. Everytime a plot is foiled I believe her and her friends spirits are to thank for it. She was truly blessed by God, chosen by God to be an example of dying to this world and living for Christ and she gave her life to shw the world that she loved and believed in God!!!thanks for sharing this tonight!!!!~~Toni~~

    I am not religious

but she was a very brave girl to stand up for her beliefs. It's a moving poem.

There are so many atrocities in our in our life time that we don't often hear the messages we really need to hear. This young girl, even in her passing had something that needs to be shared! It is sad that alot of people who NEED to hear this often don't because bad news always takes the center stage. A wonderful homage for this lovely girl...

Most touching tribute to such a young and innocent heart that the lord did call her to his side so soon. How can we fight the daily sludge of oncoming news to help other remember the acts of love of so few, that there were fewer victims who knows perhaps her courage and devotion might have help save a life or two for those fleeing needed but moments to escape.

It is truly a sorry day when those who don't know how to reach out commit such attrocious acts that god will have difficulty in redeeming thier souls.

I like it, I like it so.

I am a hibernated person, so i dont know the entire story behind this, but i felt sadness as I read this piece. It's amazing how much more important our children of the world are rather than the adults. I wish every parent felt this way. I loved this poem and hope to hear more about Rachel...

      I agree,Maiden.
We Should honor all the lost to this senseless act in all schools that have had this happen.
I tell Rachel's story because she made a challenge to all to be kind to their peers. Also because my eleven year old son asked me too.
You are right that we should mourn all.
Also i am sure there were many others hero's in this school.
      Thanks for pointing this out.
      hugs,
      ~Lisa~

It is incredible that someone would be asked such a question in such a situation - the sick minds that modern society creates are unthinkable. This is a kind and sincere dedication and I think we can all take something from it.

For me, I see the God issue as perhaps part of the problem rather than the cure. It puts too much pressure on people to beleive in an absolute with only faith as a guide (as knowledge here certainly alludes us). Why can we not find these sentiments from our own hearts, without the need to call upon divisive, speculative dieties.

This poem would multiply in its force and vivacity if it were open to all people, including those warped minds that brought us this devastation in the first place.

A marvellously elegant piece of prose that uplifts in a personal way in the midst of the horror and carnage. Very well done...except that the piece is littered with errors of English - spellings, constructions and usage. We can, of course, understand the content but it seems such a shame that it is bedevilled by errors - just one example, "My you rest in peace!" should read "May you rest in peace!" Pedantic? Possibly, but I hope you find the comment useful. Thank you so much for sharing.

touching people with kindness is a way of reminding others of our purpose in living ...its a pity that we rush through each day oblivious to others...thanks for reminding readers to take the time for the simple things...a show of appreciation for others' looks, warmth, maybe just a smile here and there...we all have to leave this world anyway, we just dont know when or maybe 'HOW'....sometimes wonder if its an advantage to know when one dies...we should savor the little happiness each day brings...we can maybe count our blessings, what we have, instead of striving to collate what we still do not have...

    Symply breathtaking.

You have written such a fantastic tribute to a wonderful girl that she should never be forgotten. There is not a sentence that is truely not done in absolute beauty of thought and care. This takes my breath away and tears to my eyes. Gods arms embrace all of his children who have been slaughtered needlessly of that I am sure. Bless you for writting such a tribute and shareing it with us.

wonderful tribute to a brave young girl, to die so violently. how sad, TV and movies with toys has help to create these young monsters that they want to kill others for no reason except to see them die. It pains my heart for such to happen.
thank you for sharing this story.

    So true indeed

For to help those so left behind helps keep loved ones being lost when life is unkind .Reach out to all children so they all will know love and teach your children never to shun another child just because they are different teach them to except people as they are for not all children areas blessed as others

    G'day Bejeweledone

OMG. I have never heard of Rachel, mainly because I am scared of the Columbine Shootings. Even all the way down here in Australia it is still a shocking and awful event that should have never taken place.
I've always been afriad to hear too much about it and this write reminded me why.
Those boys were cold-blooded and horrible and that poor girl had to suffer that.

I hope she is resting peacefully always.
    Amazing write. Absolutely amazing.
    Stay safe
    ~Amanda

From day one I have taught my son to show compassion to his fellow students and I always reminded him that you just never know who could hurt and what they could do and after this tragic event I drilled it home even harder. This was just an aweful day for the world and rest assured that I have heard Rachel's challenge and I pick up the gauntlet with my strong faith and will be sure to pass it on to others so that they may hear her to. Thank you so much for writing and sharing this.

It's awful how sweet, innocent people who will do anything for others and spend their whole lives being completely unselfish and looking out for their friends, family, and even strangers, die so young, if we had more people like Rachel in the world it would be a brilliant place to live, but for some reason beautiful people like this don't live their lives out, perhaps it's because God loves these kind of people so much that he wants them up in heaven with him, I'm not sure... But this is a beautiful poem, it's so sweet, and awful at the same time, wonderful job, thankyou for sharing this story with me, I promise I will go to school on Monday and be kind and help at least 1 person in need =) A brilliant job =)

My eldest daughter's name is Rachel...Rachel Dawn. I couldn't help but read your poem and go to the YouTube video. We never know the impact that our lives will have on others. Guess that's why I firmly believe in being as kind as possible to each person I meet. We must try our best to live our dreams. Rachel Joy Scott is living her dream as she smiles down from Heaven. She is now romping with that angels. Thank you for this at this time in my life.

I just went through the sudden death of my cousin. He touched so many lives, people we never even knew he knew, He was a giant at making friends. He will be missed but his spirit remains. Again, I thank you for this.

Much Love & Many Blessings ♥
