Help is a Four Letter Word

When is the last you've given a hand
To someone who was really in need?
You give clothes and food to charities
But you never do what it takes
To hold someone's life in your own arms
And bring them back to reality
Where chivalry may be dead and gone
But courtesy and generosity take you places

You think you're a hero to many
Because you throw a ball around for money
I'm afraid you're wrong in that respect
Being a hero is more than being famous
Breaking a record or becoming a star
Doesn't even compare to what they do
Fighting fires, stopping crime
Real heroes never get credit for their help

When did we all become so selfish?
Why do we fall for sex and money?
Why can't go out there and do something?
We've been caught up in ourselves
Instead of fighting those fires
And stopping all this crime
We've given into the good life
At the expense of helping those in need

heroes fall from grace while true heroes never ask to be heroes they just do what they feel and think is right. This world is an ever evolving place moving forward perhaps but we lost so much along the way. Today it is the ME generation ... you have put forward some deep thinking to ponder over. thank you poetry asks questions and makes the reader think you have dont that for me in this read. good luck in the contest.

You have penned a true aspect

of what seems to be occuring at a more rapid rate everyday and it is happening in so many ways. I saw a man fall over in a wheel chair crossing at an intersection, a disabled war veteran and pedestrians just walked by him a car unable to pass with him in the street did what? he honked his horn, me I crossed over (j-walking against the red light) I was issued a ticket for doing so after I helped him up. He said it was ok it was nothing new for him. That is the sorriest disply of human compassion I have ever seen and like he said "it's nothing new"
Thanks for the entry and good luck in the contest
