~Our Humanity~

Missing image

great poetry, meaningful poetry,

evolves from the workmanship of the soul,

woven from the sinew of the heart

and displayed as a carpet of love's design.

for without emotion, without a lifetime

of interlaced doubts, love's, losses,

pain, wonderment and curiosity,

poetry, true poetry,  fails to birth.

no true poet is completely happy,

for the placenta of poetry is anguish,

exasperation, won ~ and lost loves

a million incidents ~ of life.

we all are colored of our experiences,

shadowed of our fears,

and enlightened by our loves.

Poetry both eases the pain,

and enhances one's visions,

~Windex of the soul~

for, without a doubt,

it is our capacity for poetry,

which endows us all

of our humanity.

    how lovely

I nearly gasped at the end of this, for I had been holding my breath the entire length of the poem, afraid to disrupt the perfect flowing of images to my brain.

Your writes speak to me in ways that few poems do. Only two other poets thus far have accomplished the connection you have - Sylvia Plath and Ellipsist (of this site).

This ranks right up there with my favorites by them.

I am so glad you shared this link with me, friend.

Wow. This is absolutely beautiful. This sounds like the poem our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be reading in books long after are gone...
    Wow.
    Write on.

Powerful write and very true. I agree with what this poem had to say. No poet or poetess is truly happy in life. If we have love, we may not be happy with the state of the world and even if there was to be world peace tomorrow, some people may still find themselves without love, so they still wouldn't be completely happy. Great thoughts in this piece. Thanks for sharing.

A thought provoking write which was a pleasure to read as it perused the cares that both carry and caress the spirit of a poet.
Particularly liked "for the placenta of poetry is anquish" indeed 'tis the very umbillicus that binds the poet to birth by creating the poem when emotion plays it's part from heart to pen.
Am tentatively unsure re the reference to windex, will have to look that up as am unfamiliar with it.Yes,indeed we are all coloured by life and experience and in turn that colours our poetry for we may imagine anything and everything but 'tis the reality of a thing that we bring to the table for the reader to dine on and digest.
Perhaps poetry does reveal the humanity of the poets soul but not in it's entirety for it depends whether they are writing from fiction or fact and the integrity with which their pen is ink dipped.
Words are easily poured on to a page and sighs are felt in a fraction of a second by the sensitive heart,
but at the end of the day the poet may be instrumental to action, that is where and why philosophy becomes enmeshed within poetry.
Indeed we lift our pens and paint the canvas of life lived,we colour it with clothes suitable for the occaision and then we name our creation, just as we do our offspring and introduce the essence of ourselves to the universe.
Indeed, our humanity is always, always in our hands.

Reminds me vividly of the quote upon my page....
"The great medicine for humanity is art." by
Stephen Page. Personally, I have been able to let go of so much and "heal" those wounds unseen by what I
write down. I'm sure they will find this a meaningful tribute as any "true" poet should. Blue
