In the brain,
resides two categories
of people: those that
you let see your true
selves, and those
to whom you fake it.
There are few that
reside in the
"I can be myself
category" for most
people in this world.
The majority of us
are hiding in the
darkness; using our
shadows as protection
until we feel
comfortable to step
into the light.
And when we find
someone that brings
out the light in us,
it is beautiful and
we instantly feel
gratified and connected.

I really like the sentiment of this piece, but I’m not feeling it as a poem.
If you took out all of the extraneous line breaks, I’d be left with a nice little piece of spoken word, or a journal entry, but it lacks the grandeur, flow, and device of what *I* consider to be a poem.
It certainly is poetic prose, but prose none the less.
Along the same lines, the line breaks in this piece seem really arbitrary to me. It seems as if there just happens to be a line break every 3 or 4 words, weather it needs one or not.
I think this is a great idea for a poem, but isn’t just yet.
