Would You Read Them??????

Romeo loved Juliet,
And Juliet loved Romeo,
If Romeo loved Mercutio,
And Juliet loved the nurse,
I am not talking about family love,
But a love like none on earth,
The love between two people,
Fighting all odds,
A love as bright as the sun,
That will show you through the darkest of days,
If this were how the story goes,
Would people still have read it?
Or would it be an outcast?
A bad book,
For show the love of two people,
Of different genders.
What if Harry Potter loved Ron?
How many people would read it then?
Everything around us,
So it seems,
Is all based on heterosexuality.

Is that why it seems,

Most are homophobic?

Because they grow up around,

One man and one woman,
Through everything they do.

So now I ask you,

If these fine pieces of work were to change,

Would you read them??

Author notes

Something that came to mind. I seen a lesbian movie called To Catch A Falling Star and is was pretty much like Romeo and Juliet but with two girls. The one about Harry Potter I read on this one site before so I thought to add that into it.
17.other--tell me what you are trying to say in the notes please.
This is some what explantory but I have been thinking what if these fine works to be rewritten would everyone read them then.

  • Very interesting thoughts, I liked the ideas you bring to this though I don't completely agree with it. You're right, people probably wouldn't have read it.

    Thanks for entering.

this piece really impressed me, because it states a fine point...and Hell yeah I would read them!!!! Anyways, the point to this piece is like the point in the essay "The Semiotics of Sex" but thank you for sharing and speaking out...I hope that it will help make a difference and people might see/be more tolerant..thanks for entering and good luck in the contest

sure we would, if the storyteller entertained and informed with shakespeare's or rowling's genius. but it begs the question, would people go to see "La Cage Aux Faux" or "Angeles in America" if the stories were about heterosexuals?

i really liked this poem because it reveals a lot about the author's search for self and other in america. say what you want about the craftsmanship of the piece, it's refreshingly honest and relevant in spirit.

If the movies were like this, I'd be even more interested in them. They would totally rock!

This is a very interesting and thought provoking piece that I think many people should read. It does make you wonder how people would react if the stories were written as such. I think that the story would still be popular but, probably not as much as it is today. Great job my friend!
