His name was called
Finally a letter had come
The envelope was plain
Except for his name
He sat and stared at it
He wondered who it was from
He had no family
He had no friends
With trembling hands
he carefully opened it
savoring every moment
slowly he pulled out a note
The first thing he noticed.
In each the corners,
a hand drawn heart design.
Dear Soldier, it began.
Tears filled his eye as on he read
You don't know me,
I don't know you.
But will you be my friend?
I am a young girl,in the hospital.
I am dying, lonely and afraid.
I prayed to God to give to me
a friend and He told me to write to you.
So dear soldier I am writing and I prayed
God to put this in the hands of one in need
So if you are reading this
You must be the one who needs a friend
Write me back if you have time.
Even if just to give me your name.
Thank you for serving.
Love your new friend
With tears in his eyes
He folded the note
placed it in his pocket
close to his heart
Rising up, He wiped his eyes.
Picked up his gun, back on patrol.
This time though he could smile.
He had a friend of his own.

I wrote this at 0630 while waiting on my daughter to get dressed, but had to finish the back ground after I got back home.

I enjoyed reading this. It is something that I can relate to. I may not take it the exact way you mean it, but I can relate to it. You are a very talented writer, and I hope to have more time to read more of your excellent work. Keep up the good writing.
