Sex, Lies and Betrayal

Safe in the corner in the midst of the night
Sex, lies and betrayal have reached a new height
Reflections of bittersweet passion and lust
The lure of the forbidden fruit was too much

They came in together, a flurry of heat
Trapped in an embrace from their lips to their feet
Abandoning all thoughts of whats right and whats wrong
She'd wanted to have his best friend for so long

She'd tell me how much she yearned for his kiss
Confide all her worries and every last wish
Happily married for the past seven years
I'd seen all the laughter, the love and the tears

Yet now all I see is a relationship slurred
In the marital bed where this poison occurred
Writhing and screaming someone else's name
Tomorrow she'll suffer noxious guilt and shame

I never thought she would cheat on her man
With his best friend just to show that she can
Sex, lies and betrayal have took place in the dark
She'll look in me tomorrow with a new broken heart

(Can you guess the hidden twist in this poem? It's from a mirror's point of view)

Author notes

This was for a contest my friend held. Write a poem involving a mirror, trying to be as different as possible. This was my offering.

Wow, well done Gem, I really mean that. The flow on this piece works really well, and all of the words just seem to fit, you know? I didn't understand bits of it until you explained about the mirror, but then I re-read it and it all just slotted into place. You've made me think about the way I live my life, which is sometimes not a good thing! I never realised you are so talented!
