O, Sea!

O, Briny Deep!
From within hidden depths was born
The lonely soul of myself, forlorn…
I seek a faraway, distant shore,
Your unchartered waters, I explore

O, Steady Waters!
Throughout my blackest hours,
Sailing clear blue waters, we go;
You carry me to that faraway shore,
Because that’s what friends are for.

O, Great Sea!
I beg you to hear my call, O Sea,
Of intense longing for only thee.
With time, our friendship shall grow,
Your ancient powers I already know.

O, Faithful Ocean!
Salty kisses spray from thee;
Though my heart is torn,
And my body worn,
You are always there for me.

O, Mighty Sea!
Your charms hold life’s mysteries,
Within your deep, dark womb,
You keep those secrets entombed,
And only you can set them free.

O, Aigéan!
Three cheers to a grand retreat!
Lilting waves reach out to greet;
As your gentle foam comforts me,
You graciously set my spirit free.

O, Majestic Ocean!
Your beauty enraptures me,
Your sparkling froth adorns
What your ebb tide has worn;
Together with you I’ll always be.

O, Nurturing Sea!
With indulgent fragrance in the wind,
My broken heart will verily mend;
Echoes of wave-prints encase my soul,
Wispy sea breezes make me feel whole.

O, Magical Waters!
My senses dance in your throes,
Wherever your tidal wave goes;
With your tempest’s thunderous roar,
Together, our spirits shall soar.

O, Sea!
Your sunlit tresses caress my face,
It is only you my love can embrace;
I give this heart and soul felt refrain,
And in your debt I shall always remain.

Author notes

Dedicated to My Poet Friends.

This poem was written during
a difficult period in my life,
while a recent contest I held
here on AP kept my pen afloat
and my poetic muse inspired.
That contest was "Come Sail
Away With Me" and the poems
that were submitted were all
wonderfully written, coming
directly from the heart of each
beautiful poet. I thank you all!

    There is an innate beauty within this poem , i could picture you sranding on the cliffs reading out this poem your voice fighting to be heard against the crashing waves.It is onr of those poems that you have to read with a hushed voice at a slow pace, it just blows me away, a real classic

    Now isn't that a good description of a faithful friend? Sometimes the advice they give in our darkest moments is "salty kisses" unpalatable at the time they may be when those comments are swallowed, direct enough to bring tears to the eyes, but you know they are a "nurturing sea" and those gentle waves of advice will help take you to your destination. The picture chosen is supurb!

    Dead reckoned.

    If you not be a sailor you sure have the feelings of a sailor! Many sunrises,sunsets,moonless and full moon nites, have always invoke the same feelings you have expressed. The sea gives one time to reflect ones' relationship with others and themselves. This was Well Done!

    This is a splendid poem.
    It flows smoothly and expresses the hope that you find in the sea during a sad period of time.
    Beautifully worded.

    Inspirational

    This is such a heartfelt piece of writing! you have laid your heart and soul bare... the eigth stanza stands out the most for me as I read through.
    The sea is so mighty in all its different moods, especially so for expressing our emotions when we may find ourselves in a dark place in our life.

    You are truly a talented poet, thank you for sharing your work with us.

    Cyn,
    This piece hit me right in my heart.
    My Grand dad from Ireland was a fisherman who loved the sea.
    Pictures of the sea in every room in his home.
    His eyes would sparkle just speaking of it.
    He missed it so.
    I wish he could have layed his old eyes on these words.

    Great Job.

    A solemn and beautifully penned piece you have done here and the dedication in your author notes just reached out and grabbed hold of my heart. Your elegant verbiage made for such vivid imagery. The ocean is a wonderful place and as much as it holds so much solace for me it can be tempestuous and unforgiving also. I love how you changed the rhyming scheme within it at times also. The way you called out to the ocean at the start of each stanza was excellent. Kudos for you on this powerful piece and best wishes in the contest. Keep that ink flowing like the ocean's tides. Love and God bless, Joyce
