confessions from your heart
you're in tears as the words pour out
words of an unreturned love
i continue to look at the ground
not wanting to break your heart
with the words that are seeking an outlet
you know that i don't return your feelings
i feel as if we are so close we're family
i can't find it in myself to love you
you finally turn, whispering goodbye
i cry out for you not to go
but you just walk away into the distance

i call you over and over again
preparing for an apology
that i know you will not accept
throwing down the phone in frustration
i push the power button of the television
and sink down into my bed
the news has an updated story
that of the suicide
of a young adult male
the tears spring forth from my eyes
in my heart, i know it's you
you've left your pain and suffering behind

your parents come over the following day
weeping and holding each other
bringing with them a note
your mother holds it out to me
wrinkled and smudged a bit
but still readable
crying, i read it
sobbing with each word
as they stab my heart
at the end of the note, a ps reads
"can a heart still break
if it has stopped beating?"

this is an amzing piece...just the way that it is written and i love how the little lines across the page break it up...this is another great poem where the reader knows exactly what to follow and what to expect but at the same time it's not cliche....very good job...good luck and thanks for entering
