Sleep

Sleep....
Lay down your weary head,
Dream about tomorrow....
and where your little feet will tread.

Rest....
Close your little eyes,
listen to my voice....
and I'll sing you lullibyes.

I'll try to keep you safe always,
proctect you from all harm.
While you are little I'll cuddle you,
and I'll keep you from the storms.

But one day you'll be full grown
and have heartache and pain.
And I won't be able
To protect you from those rains.

And so sleep....
lay down your weary head....
keep on dreaming about tomorrow,
and where your little feet will tread.

Rest, close your little eyes,
Listen to my voice....
and I'll keep singing lullibyes...

For now just Rest......

I've always loved this. I remember when you first wrote it. It touches my heart, now more then ever, since I now have a child.

Thank You. I have many poems that ended up becoming songs. I play the guitar and this one is really, really sweet to sing. My girls: ages 12 and 18 now cry when I play the music and sing it to them.Thank you for your comment.
