Pondering society's secrets,
wondering how we let it
crumble and fall apart;
it's poisoned beyond repair.
Darkened skin scorned,
silent stares ring out
as disgust and disdain,
why does it matter?
A child cries out to
the night sky in prayer.
Confused because he's always
hungry and others are not.
A mother sings tearful
lullabies to fall asleep
because no one will listen
to how hard she tries to no avail.
How can we ignore these people?
How can we sit here and watch
them wither away knowing there
is something we can do to help?
The poison flows deep in
society's veins, it may
be too late for survival;
are we all doomed?

Wow, what an important question, that I do not know the full answer to yet. All I know is that I have one life to work on and that is my own. We may not be able to change the world, but we can save our souls and those around us if we remain constant and unselfish. I loved this piece.
