Dandiya Rasa

beads and jewels
swung to the rhythm
of drums,
garlands of thin payal
danced to the heavy beats

bangles played along
with mirrors
woven in traditional garbs
colored sticks in musical rings

sindoor swirled in warmth
of Maha Arti
sprinkling festive blessings
on bare foreheads

nine nights
coupled them together
on sacred notes
within a bonfire
till divine light
melted their rasa
to the glory of Maa Durga

Author notes

payal ~ a braclet like ornament wore on feet
sindoor ~ the red dot on forehead esp applied by married ladies
Maha Aarti ~ way of worship
Maa Durga ~ Goddess
