Cassandra

fated with the best of gifts
paired with the worst of curses
my name is Cassandra
and I couldn't give my body

only a child, as I was
plagued with circumstance
my name is Cassandra
and I couldn't give my body

knowing truth before it's so
but labeled as a liar
my name is Cassandra
and I couldn't give my body

Author notes

The second in my series of poems about lore and mythology.
This was about Cassandra. The part of the story I'm portraying in the poem is the part where Cassandra wouldn't give her body, as she promised to Apollo in exchange for his guidance in prophecy, and Apollo got angry. Though he couldn't take his gift back, he could tweak it--Cassandra could still see the future, but when she tried to warn people, she was taken as a liar and a lunatic.

Please tell me what you think--or don't, because I don't much care.

this is a really good poem...in class we just finished reading the Aeneid and it mentioned Cassandra and that she could see the future, but it never talked about HOW she had gotten her gift...
