Women fought for franchise
Got it on par with men
They are sitting along side
Shouting the men down in parliament.
Animal franchise is a far cry
They are yet to fight for it
The voice of animal activists apart
They are left to fend for themselves.
When animals got franchise
They sit along men and women
Animals drown their voice
With full-throated shouts of yes and no.
A donkey learns nuances of politics
The tricks the politicians play
Making a promise only to forget
Feels proud in not making a promise to break.
When politicians rely on animals for power
They treat them with respect
Lest they may lose their votes
Empowering animals then have a great say.
Politicians learn a lesson or two
Animals do not hoard beyond hunger
So never destroyed ecology
Unlike politicians who hoard, consume and destroy.
Politicians come to learn
Animal’s function in order
While drawing no borders to conquer
They avert large-scale massacre.
