Is it just I that think these thoughts?
Or am I not alone?
In wishing hard and hoping long,
That a win should be my own.
Now I understand that most deserve,
Some praise where praise is due.
But aren’t my comments just enough,
Without them stealing too?
I slave all night and slog all day,
On a poem worth the Gold.
Though in the end, all I then get,
Is tradition to uphold!
“It’s only fair!” I hear them say,
“Judge quickly!” They all cry”
So irritating, in the end,
That scathingly I reply:
“So what? I won it fair and square!
The trophy’s mine forever!
I think that I deserve a rest,
It’s not easy being clever!
I know I’m harsh, I know I’m mean!
I’m selfish, through and through!
I’ll hoard the gold and stash the points!
As payment, thanks to you!”
Now I’ll admit I break the rules,
Though some may think me sordid.
But I know that most of you’ll agree,
We deserve to be rewarded!
So say “Farewell!” to PIF!
O’ parting’s such sweet sorrow.
But still, alas, the Pay it Forward
Will be back again tomorrow…
Author notes
This was SO fun to write! And the subject matter is so true... I started to read it aloud at one point, and I have to say it comes across better like that!
