The old man lay quietly on his bed.
His breathing was shallow.
A tear runs down his cheek.
In his hand he clutched a picture.
It was of the most beautiful girl.
He doesn't quite remember the day.
It was so long ago, The day they wed.
Since the day he got here he has told
all the nurses and doctors.
How beautiful she is,
He remembers her smell,
as sweet as a rose.
To anyone that would listen,
He would tell of their life,
Each detail recalled as if it were today.
Fifty years of loving life.
Then he stops nothing more.
As if he had died in the accident too.
They know from his son that she had died
on the way home from their golden celebration,
when a drunk driver ran a red light
and hit them broad sided.
She had died in his arms as he held her tight.
For 29 years now he had lived in the past.
His family now gathered by his side,
come to say their goodbyes.
With one last breath they heard him say
as he kissed the picture, and closed his eyes.
Sweetheart, Thank you for your love.
Now I'm coming home.

Ohhh, wow. I was totally allured to this poem just from the first line & the picture. I could see this whole poem in my mind as I read it, as you wrote it so perfectly. The feeling of loss & living in the past becomes a burden for a lot of people. I honestly don't know what words I can use to describe this heartfelt & beautiful poem. I was in awe by every word, and I almost teared up a bit.
-With one last breath they heard him say

This poem is real sad and I can see right now it happened for real this is why I love poetry because its so deverse you make fiction out of it or real life. You capured what true love is as a man and woman romance grows as well then suddenly its taken away. Very very beautiful poem one of my favorites.. Nice job
