Black veils and russet leaves
streaks of somber youth stranded
in mirrored marshlands of "i's" and whys???????
Those "faceless shapes of dawning
wade knee deep across wetlands
asphyiated by "non-toxic" red-tide
mans man-made genocide to poison
the seas and man and end over-
population's smells of dying:
mullet lying on slime
beached upon death's stench
sand and silt thickly matted
filthy invested waters growing
filthy airs
requiem mass in 3/4 time:
Listless morning dirge mourning
the green lichens of summer's
fallen boughs and songbirds
found voiceless...lost and drowning
in autumn's pain.

wow, this is an impressive interpretation of the prompt. I can't help but read this from a pro-environmental standpoint but it contains a wonderful weaving of multiple layers of meaning, I feel.
