The Book

Victoria was Victorious, in 1898
Gladstone passed away;
Emily too and Healey born.

We tasted Walkers Shortbread,
and still enjoy the butter,

but Bill Leader is only a name.

He stood up and authority
sneered and twisted and turned
his plea.

Bill spoke for the public; but
They spoke for Bill to the country.

Notes in the book and dates beside
of moments to remember.
Leader caused conflict,
and his knowledge - correct

never had the pleasure of ink.

Author notes

This has a bit of history in it.

For reading ease -

WIlliam Gladstone was a UK Priminister who died in 1898.
Emily is my greatgrandmother who died that year.
Donald Healey was a car designer and ralley driver born in 1898.
Walkers shortbread is a Scottish company founded in 1898 and it's still a well established company today.

Bill Leader however, is a fictonal character in the poem, there to prove a point. We don't know the name.

How many more names should be known if EVERYTHING was recorded?

this is really unusual. i like how you used real names and then threw in a random one. its mind blowing to think of how much history we do not know, or maybe cannnot. very deep, and original. excellent poem!

Extremely unique. I love it, it is written in such an intriguing style!
I like the way it flows, similarly to the way life flows, people die so that new people are born, and vice versa. The personalised lines add a lovely touch of sentiment to a historical piece.

    Well done
