My fatefull death is the shame.
Many say "That dog should be killed"
without even knowing, my heart longs to be filled.
Others see my strength,
and begin to beat me, and forget to feed me for an abnormal length.
I'm shoved into a plastic container,
by a mean man who calls himself a trainer.
The next fatefull step I truly dread.
If I win,
I will be fed and stuffed back in.
But the remaining dog,
will be left to rot like a log.
If given the chance,
I would willingly come out of this trance.
I dream of the day,
My friends and I will be able to freely play.
Until then I will fight for my life,
just so they don't poke me with their knife.
And my story will continue to be sad,
Because of my name it no longer matters if I'm good or bad.
Because of the pit bull name,
they say I am the one at blame.
If I were any other breed,
that man would be locked away for this sickening deed.
Author notes

Tears I felt
I had tears leave my eyes.. this is the most sadened poem ever.. I am a proud owner of a Beauitful Red Nose Pit Bull.. She is my lil baby!! She's a snuggler!!!
I am a TRUE fighter of saving this beautiful breed..
People knock me sumtimes for the Name "pit bull"..Mostly if I look to rent there property.. For there scared becuz the ignorant man who chooses to fight..They judge me. They breath/bleed like we.. Animal cruelity should be charged upon these ignorant men.. Whom makes life harder for us..
If I could pass up the 3 hand applause this deserves more!!!

This is so sad. you can feel how hopeless the dog feels. I believe these people should locked up in prison with all the other murderers. I have had the pleasure of owning 6 pit bulls in my life time. They are just as warm and loving as any other breed.
-
It is horrible how they cant help the way that people made them. A dog is what the owner trained it to be. They are strong and some people are dumb and that is a horrible mix. My friend owns a pit bull and he is the sweetest and most gentle dog (with the kids). I appreciate this poem. Thank you for writing it. I hope you do well in this contest!

it's true! even if pitbulls are agressive by nature (which i don't beleive), it's the way the owner raises it that will tell how the dog will behave. if it's raised to be vicious, it'll be vicious. but i've known some very loveable and sweet pit bulls, in fact i want one of my own! it's a shame that it's only the vicious pitbulls that are portrayed in the media, no one bothers to show the loveable ones.

So sad it is
Yes so many breed dogs and the way they treat them makes them mean and some dogs are just mean in nature and this des happen to . Its so sad what they do with these animals so sad .But my sister had a pit bull and it was as gentle as a lamb and well taken care of yet one day it lunged at her son for no reason at all and if she hadnt been there he would have been hurt badly or killed . For some of those dogs they have breed into them a mean streak that is heredetary in their blood line . They cant help the way they are .But can be a danger to society for the unsuspecting person not knowing of the danger .A child walking by a neighbor working in his yard . -
i watched the video and cried. what you wrote is extremely sad. my mother had a pit bull once and he was like a gentle baby. these dogs have had a bad name for a long time, just because of their locking jaw. thank you for sharing this. keep writing! God bless you always

It is SAD world indeed
Too many blames the animal and not the human being for making them what they have become . But I have seen a pit bull loved and treated so kind and excepted into the home and it turned on them . This was my sister that raised this beautiful dog and found it could have ment her sons life it was just too close. Yet that strain is bread into the dogs it wasnt natural so certain things do trigger the aggresivness in the breed . Its sad so sad

SO SAD!!!
It is truly a shameful way to treat any animal. I have seen pit bulls so huge yet so gentle once they get to know you who you are and you mean them no harm. I actually had one who would jump up and stand with his paws on my shoulders as he looked me in the eye. He was just an overgrown baby though, so gentle and playful.

Yep - the Pit Bull's reputation is a sad one; and very unfair. They are raised to be viscious by people who want to exploit them for fighting and use them for "protection". It all makes me sick. I am glad that that Vick character was prosecuted for his ugly dog fighting business. Thank you for sticking up for these wonderful dogs. I have never met a mean pitbull. They are the most loving, gentle and sweet dogs one could ever meet. MOst animals, and people, turn mean when they are abused. We are not much different. It's not so different from child abuse, as far as I am concerned - and there needs to be more laws protecting them!
-
This poem is sad but true.
There are people out there that mistreat their Pitt Bulls and then they get the blame for biting them because they are getting mistreated.
I enjoyed this write you did very well.
Congrats. -
Yes I entirely agree with you - they are truly repulsive animals and I am wholeheartedly in favour of their being put to sleep. It is a kindness to everyone.
-
awww such a sad poem, dogs are all judged the same due to being a certain breed, which is wrong, I have a Jack Russell, and she's not snappy, nippy like people say they are. Great poem well written. thanks for entering and good luck!!

Can't be bothered to read something with a spelling mistake in the first 2 lines.

:(
I agree this is not a good thing to do to dogs especially ones with reputations for being a "bad" dog, but you did not follow 2 of my rules. One was to tell which topic you chose and the other was make it happy. I am sorry but this one will be removed from the contest. -
this is very sad, somehow I think thats how they would really feel.
-
Sounds stupid but this brought tears to my eyes. I have a dangerous type dog too and they are misunderstood. Pits are the only dogs I'm scared of as I was bit in the face by one but this really was taken from a loving position. Is this about dog fighting, it sounded like it, which is a seperate crime all it's own. Excellent Poem!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for entering my contest and good luck. This is a subject that must be brought out into the open and be dealt with. I believe that with all the press this is getting with the Michael Vick case, that something will have to happen. I did notice some typos.
"Until then i will fight for my life,"
Should be:
"Until then I will fight for my life,"
"Because of my name it no longer matters if i'm good or bad."
Should be:
"Because of my name it no longer matters if I'm good or bad."

A nice commentary on the abusive nature of the dog fighting sports...not that it is a sport. Such inhumane treatment of animals gives them a bad name. I am sure that there are some pitbulls that are friendly as well out there and it is just who owns them. german shepherds were once thought of this way i think and I owned one...some said never trust around a child but ours was the best and never would let strangers in the yard. big dog, big bark, no bite. intelligent also.

Thnk you for your poem. It is very nice.keep on writing.
