The night purrs outside the window,
growing crisp with the coming of fall.
I'm too busy listening to your heartbeat
to pay much more attention to anything
that is not your chest against my cheek,
or your hand resting on my back.
Tomorrow morning we'll wake to the rush
of the world dancing around our ears,
and there will be no noise for us.
There will only be your hazel eyes
meeting my blue and sleep cleared gaze.
Only our song will fill our ears.
The curtains will still be closed,
shutting out the accusations of our peers,
blocking out the rest of the world
from our late night sanctuary.
No one could disturb us here.
No one would ever bother.
We are merely two girls in union,
body's meshed amidst a sea of blankets.
I'm counting your breathing, and...
you're slipping off into a land of dreams
and a world where we are not condemned
by the eyes that meet our interlocked hands.
Tomorrow morning the peace the resides
on the peak of your brow will be gone.
It will be washed away by the worries of the day,
only to be renewed when our night falls again.
Night, when we are merely children of the world,
meeting the human desire of finding happiness in being together.
