Let us throw away form for just a moment,
(It has never done me any good anyway)
and focus on the function of words.
There's a simple beauty in the unbowed vulgar
which can never been drawn from the twisted sheath of complexity.
I've never been very good at expressing emotion,
(except for anger, of course)
which is why I am oft accused of apathy.
It's really not that I don't feel,
so stop treating me like a rock.
Keep raining your misfortune on my scorched back
and you'll soon see what lies under my skin.
All the tears that have drowned out my sorrow
would never douse the flame in my chest.
And if I seem jaded, cynical and spiteful.
Please do not be alarmed;
It's only because I am what this world has shaped me.
Perhaps in another life I would have learned to get along,
but, alas, we're in this one.
I'm tired of the "if"s and "but"s.
I'm tired of having my pegs shaped by your holes.
I'm tired of re-reading the rules because they've changed to suit you.
I'm tired of everything that will never go my way...
So yes, my friend, you and I are in this.
And we're in this together
